Services

K-point researchers and teachers carry out an assignment that is specified in an agreement.

A standard fee is paid to execute the assignment. In the last year of the Bachelor or Master programme, the students do a work placement in a company or organisation and write a thesis on it afterwards. The organisation is responsible for the daily follow-up of the work placement and also reaps the rewards of the cooperation.

As part of the work placement, however, certain problems that are beyond the expertise of your organisation can also be dealt with. Experienced researchers and teachers will make it their job to support these problems content wise. In that case a certification of effort is made additionally to the training period agreement, only paying for the effort the teacher-researcher has put into your project.

Do you have any ideas or questions? Let us know. K-point wants to bring in three groups of students each year to help solve specific problems.

Some examples

ICT competence test for students with learning disabilities

During the academic year 2006-2007 an "ICT competence test for students with learning disabilities" will be developed. The non-profit organisation WAI-NOT commissioned this project. Four Electronics-ICT students have been developing a website that will make it possible to measure basic ICT competences such as:

  • practising your mouse skills
  • scrolling and navigating through web pages
  • using the keyboard
  • understanding simple messages in web pages

In collaboration with researchers from Internet Inclusief and technically supported by an experienced ICT teacher, the 4 students will carry out this assignment. An occupational therapy student, who at the same time is doing a work placement in a special needs school will give feedback on the assignment. A group of 5 occupational therapy students are ready to test the appliance in several special needs schools. They will give feedback to adjust the ICT competence test.

Development of an e-mail appliance for people with learning disabilities

On 30 November 2006 Stijn Bukenbergs from Balen and Kristof Maes from Lommel, both graduates at the Katholieke Hogeschool Kempen, were given a Cera Award for their WAI-NOT project which enhanced internet use for students with learning disabilities. The WAI-NOT project promotes ICT and internet use to help train and counsel people with learning disabilities. The KH Kempen is an active partner in this project. WAI-NOT reduces the digital gap to support social integration. It offers students with learning disabilities the possibility of using the internet within an easy to use online environment. That is why the "WAI-NOT Internet Amusement Park" was created. This adapted website is educational, recreational and creative, exploratory and interactive.

Kristof has added an extra part to the website to help the target group gain access to relevant government information. In addition, Kristof concentrated on making the WAI-NOT Internet Amusement Park attractive and user-friendly.

Meanwhile, Stijn took care of an important appliance: an customised e-mail system for the WAI-NOT users, which makes it easier for the students with learning disabilities to communicate with their parents and family. The system has now been adapted to the different levels of disability. Stijn and Kristof received the CERA-award for their contribution.

Do you have any ideas or suggestions, please do not hesitate to share them with us. K-point wants to bring in three groups of students each year to help solve specific problems.
